Years 10-12

Our holistic approach prioritises personal, spiritual and academic growth through the integration of Western and Aboriginal methods of teaching and learning in the senior years. Our curriculum and teaching and learning strategies foster habits for lifelong learning and successful engagement in the workforce for the future.

Senior students work towards achieving the Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) through a wide range of subjects and VET courses.

English literacy is a key priority for graduates. Teaching teams support students’ learning with an understanding of the challenges presented to Aboriginal students with English as an Additional Language/ Dialect in the development of Standard Australian English literacy.

Murrinhpatha classes further develop literacy skills and cultural knowledge. Our local teaching team have developed theme based units that embed the development of literacy skills from the Northern Territory Indigenous Languages and Cultures Curriculum (Band 4) and related units from the Australian Curriculum (V9).

Students are exposed to local industries in Wadeye through our Employment pathways program. Short-term work placements with local businesses provide students with insights into industry and the workplace. Students have the opportunity to investigate the value of work, different jobs that people do and the pathways leading to them. Students develop practical skills through woodwork, mechanical projects and the school’s bee program. Knowledge and use of tools, workplace routines and safety are a focus of learning in the school’s Trade Training Centre.

In partnership with the Northern Land Council, TDC, Thamarurr Rangers and elders, the school is delivering the Learning on Country program to build students’ skills, confidence and capacity working on Country. There is a strong focus on learning traditional skills and knowledge from elders and employment pathways.

The incorporation of financial literacy into the Mathematics programs provides all students with skills and knowledge required beyond the classroom.

Student attendance and participation in the Thamarrurr culture program, as well as weekly Sport and wellbeing programs are also features of the Senior curriculum.
